My mom and I went to Munsinger Garden on Friday, 8/25 - the day before my birthday! Bruce and my dad stayed at home and worked on projects they hadn't quite gotten completed. My mom and I got some great photos.
The hibiscus flower above is bigger than a dinner plate! They were just unreal.
My mom took this one of me...
I have been a bad blogger lately...just haven't had the time I guess.
On June 29th, last Friday, Bruce had knee surgery. He had a menescis tear. The surgery, and so far the recovery, have been uneventful which is awesome. He only used crutches for about 1/2 a day. I think the hardest part was having to wait until Sunday so he could shower! He had a big ace bandage on from above the knee to just above his ankle.
My mom and dad got up to our house while we were at the hospital. They had just spent 6 days with The V's.
One cute thing my mom told me that happened...Sandy and Karl went for a bike ride after the girls had gone to bed. My mom went upstairs so she would be within earshot of the monitor.
Rachel did wake up and was crying a little so my mom went in the bedroom. Rachel was laying on her tummy facing away.
My mom rubbed Rachel's back for a while. Then patted her butt...she slowed down and then stopped.
Rachel while still lying perfectly still, reached back to feel if my mom was still there...so grandma resumed rubbing her back...patting her butt...slowing down the pace...then stopping. Rachel did it again! She was laying perfectly still, but reached back with her little hand to see/feel if Grandma was still there! How cute is that?
My mom flew to town for a week at the end of March. She came for Lydia's 4th birthday. I took off for a day and spent it down at Sandy's with my mom and the girls. We played and had a great time. Lydia told me that she wanted to marry me! How sweet is that? She then said "or are you already married?" I explained that I was married to Uncle Bruce...she replied "but you don't have any kids." I said "what about Josh?" (even though he isn't mine...) but she said that didn't count...it had to be a KID!
Bruce and I went to Cabela's on Saturday. We met my mom, Lydia, Rachel, Sandy and Karl there. Lydia saw me in the entry way and ran to me. I was squating down and she grabbed me so hard I landed on the ground...but there we stayed hugging and laughing!
We looked at the animals, and all climbed around in the tents, and when we found a big enough tent, we all had to get it. Lydia was pretending it was raining outside and we all needed to be inside. Rachel loved it too!
We then went to Burger King for lunch. A former neighbor of Sandy and Karl's is the manager there and so they got to visit with him.
My mom flies home on Wednesday...it is unfortunate that the weather has been so cold while she is here...it had been super nice and unseasonably warm prior to her arrival...sorry mom, but I hope you take the cold weather with you!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I forgot to mention playing school with Lydia, Rachel and my mom while I was down there earlier in the week. Lydia has some neat books for teaching/learning colors, shapes, and opposites. We spent a lot of time on the opposites book. While we were all sitting in one of the tents, I asked Lydia what the opposite would be if we weren't INSIDE the tent...she shouted OUTSIDE. I then found out that Sandy and Karl weren't aware that she even knew what "opposite" meant! I was really proud that Grandma and I had taught her something...and she caught on so quickly!!!
Since my mom is in town, I took Tuesday and Wednesday off work this week and drove down to my sister's house. My mom kept Lydia home from day care on Tuesday, and that allowed for some really special time for us to spend together. Lydia is so thoughtful, and is so good at sharing with everyone. She loves to cuddle, which fills me with joy. When I got there on Tuesday, she got up from the table and ran to me and hugged me, we fell to the floor and just layed their hugging, laughing and playing. My mom and Lydia needed their haircut.
Then we stopped at the thrift store, followed by lunch at McDonalds. While Lydia and I were walking into McDonalds, she told me I was her best friends...that made me melt. After lunch, we watched Mary Poppins and then made our own playdough with kool aid. She is saying ACTUALLY a lot. She uses it correctly too. While we were watching Mary Poppins, the little girl in the movie said "actually" one time, and I asked Lydia if that was where she got it...she replied "Actually, yes it is!" She is so cute, I just can't get enough of her.All 3 of us picked up Rachel from day care. Lydia wanted me to go so she could "introduce me!" When we got home both girls played with their new Glitter Glue.
While we were eating dinner, I was telling my mom about the blood blister I have under my thumb nail. Lydia said "I can get you a band aid." I told her that was OK, because it is under my thumb nail, and I showed her. She thought about that for a minute, and then replied "well, I could kiss it for you." OK...that did me in, I was a puddle! Rachel loves singing songs. She sings the ABCs, Happy Birthday, and Twinkle Twinkle. She likes to have a round of applause after each song...and especially loves to participate in the clapping.
After dinner, we watched Barney, and marched around the room! Lydia had a difficult time going to sleep. She cried quite a bit, and her mom was getting upset. I went in the room and kneeled by the bed and asked her what was wrong. She said, "I don't know, but I just can't stop bawling."
I slept downstairs on the floor in the family room, and Madison slept with me the whole night, down by my feet. I woke up at some point and opened my cell phone to see what time it was, then she came up by my head, so I could pet her. She is really a great cat. She is so easy going...even when the girls do things like this:
Both Lydia and Rachel stayed home on Wednesday. We had a great time playing in the basement, where my bed was still set up. We turned all the lights off and the girls took turns wearing my book light, we played dolls and pretended Santa was coming...Lydia has a fabulous imagination and makes up lots of stories.
We also played hide and seek.
Rachel especially likes to wear her RED CLACKERS and also underwear over her diaper and pants, she is such a hoot!
Rachel is still going down the steps on her tummy!
On Saturday, we are going to meet at Cabela's and then go out for lunch. That way Bruce gets to see my mom for a little bit before she flies back on Wednesday.
I went to the dentist today...just a 6-month cleaning. My teeth are pretty good, and the gal doesn't have to pick too much. I was in and out of there in 35 minutes. I was just thinking though...why hasn't anyone made a product or formulation that can coat the tooth's surfaces that would be NON STICK.
Like teflon for your teeth. Wouldn't that make so much sense?
I thought of it while she was cleaning my teeth...I just always feel like that little pick is going to get stuck and have to be surgically removed from my front teeth. I think...I am going to have to lay here with that instrument hanging out of my mouth while she runs to get the dentist to help her!
I mentioned my new invention too her...but then we realized she would be out of a job! Then she wasn't so sure if was a good idea.
Just getting ready to watch "House." I just started watching that show. I think my mom and dad watch it. It is a funny show...that doctor is just an ass. Can you imagine a physician acting like that? Makes for a good show though.
OK...time to see if this works...Ciao, Susie
