We went to Josh and Malorie's for lunch today and met our new GRAND CATS! Tess is the orange and white one...she is soooo little. She is only 2 lbs. you can see how little she is next to Bruce's hand. Both cats are quite photogenic like their new mom and dad, Malorie and Josh. I used a flash in most of the photos of Tess while she was sleeping and she never even stirred.
Here is Lola...she is a bit more shy than her sister. She is older (Tess is only 11 weeks) but still only a few months old. She too is small compared to Polar Bear Artie!
New Momma Malorie...
St. Joe's big bash is on the 3rd of July. They have food stands serving "joe burgers" french fries, pop, etc. And of course the beer gardens. Last year I think they went thru 100 kegs of beer and about 100 cases of beer. There are lots of people "uptown". Several local bands were on a stage playing music.
They raffeled off a Harely Davidson. Bruce wanted to go uptown for the drawing, just in case his name was drawn! If it had been I am sure his knee would have miraculously been ALL BETTER and he would have been able to run up to the stage! Unfortunately, he didn't win.
Before walking up there, our yard had already been getting filled up with tents. Josh and Malorie had friends over. They knew they would not be driving home, so they were prepared!
There were great fireworks. We could watch from out back yard.
The fireworks:
It was great not to have to battle traffic to get home from the fireworks. That was always the drag about having them on the 4th of July. I usually work the next day and I don't usually go to the fireworks because they don't start until 10:00 and then you have the trek home...lots of people all leaving at the exact same time. We just got to walk up the drive way and go inside! The very best thing was that we didn't HAVE to work the next day!
UPDATED: Monday night - edited to add Susie's photos.
Sandy, Karl and the girls came up on Saturday. Sandy and Karl left the girls with us to go out for lunch and to go furniture shopping. Josh and Malorie were there so we had a really great time. Of course, right away Lydia wanted to play hair salon, so Malorie and I took our turns getting our hair done.
Rachel loves to use the blow dryer...and she also loves to put eyeshadow on my arms!
ETA: I had put the shower cap away after last visit and out of the blue Rachel said "shower cap?"...she has a good memory!
After Rachel's nap we all went to St. Ben's to check to see if the fish were back yet (no, they are still in Florida). "The boys" and Lydia all rode their bikes. Lydia could ride "super fast" and even beat Bruce with how fast she could go, even with the training wheel still on! We stopped at the park on the way back from St. Ben's and the girls had a wonderful time. They both warmed up to Josh so much it was unreal!
He helped them on the monkey bars, sliding down the pole, and he and Rachel rolled a tennis ball back and forth to each other thru the tunnel.
Bruce had to leave the park to start dinner...it was his birthday dinner...but he got stuck making most of it. The rest of us stayed at the park for a long time, and then walked/biked home.
When we got home, Sandy, Karl and Bruce were on the patio visiting.
While Sandy and I finished up the dinner, the boys were told they had appointments at the hair salon!
We had spaghetti, garlic bread and salad for dinner and Lazy Daisy cake for dessert. I put birthday candles on the cake
and the girls helped Uncle Bruce blow out the candles.
I will have more photos to add later...these are all Malorie's shots. THANKS FOR SENDING TO ME SO FAST MALORIE! It was a really fun day.
On Saturday, Sandy, Karl and the girls came up for a visit. We had lunch and then Sandy and Karl left and went to a movie, shopping and out to dinner. Josh and Malorie were here too, so the girls, especially Lydia were quite excited. On the way up, Lydia told her sister she didn't need to be scared of Josh, because she knew him and she would introduce her to Josh!
I wanted to take photos of Lydia to use as her 4-year old portrait (she turns 4 on 3/31)...but that was much easier said than done.
After Rachel woke up from her nap, the Malorie, the girls and I walked to St. Ben's. There is a fish pond there that Lydia has been to several times while visiting us. Of course, the fish aren't there this time of year, but it was great to go there anyways. Lydia rode her tricycle (she didn't want the wheels on her new bike to get snow on them!) and I pushed Rach in the stroller. When we got there and saw there were no fish, Lydia said they must be in Florida!
When we got back to the house, we hung out in the back garage. Lydia got to sit on Uncle Bruce's motorcycle. Then both girls sat on the old snowmobiles. (Josh and Nate just got 2 old snowmobiles for $75.00! They are going to do something with them...the latest is trying to make a go-kart out of them!!)
Rachel started playing with the key on the snowmobile and Lydia got very afraid that Rachel would start the snowmobile and "go bye-bye". She said "I like that sister and I don't want her to go anywhere!" We assured her that it would not happen...I am not even sure they actually run!
Of course the best part of being at Aunt Susie's house is playing HAIR SALON!!!
Can't forget the shower cap!!
Rachel is really starting to talk a lot and gets easier to understand every time I see her. Her personality is developing and she is so much fun!
While we were on a walk, Lydia let Malorie take a couple photos of her...and she smiled for her. Lately, all she does for me is stick out her tongue! I asked her why she smiled so nicely for Malorie. Lydia replied...well, because she doesn't kiss me all the time like you do! Do you think I have become the dreaded aunt that you see on tv that pinches cheeks?
