Lydia started preschool this week. She goes full days on Tuesday and Thursday. She has also started going to choir.
I got an email from Sandy this morning and this is what she had to say about Lydia's new adventures.
Lydia's first CHOIR practice was Wednesday night. Karl said it was really fun. She knows (we know) SEVERAL of the kids and their parents.
They have had Sunday school together in the past, or are in the same class this Fall. Lydia keeps calling it Chiropractor. What will I wear for chiropractor? I'm going to chiropractor. very funny! the lady who is in charge of the "CHERUB CHOIR" is also the music leader for her grade level this year (for Sunday school).
When Karl dropped off Lydia on Thursday, he brought Rachel with him. Lydia held her hand. "be careful of that step Rach", "oh, good girl".
"rachel, this is where I hang my backpack" "Rachel, this is where I eat breakfast, this is my little bed, Rachel, this is my cubby where I keep my blanky and pillow". I guess she was just SWEET to her. She was very PROUD to show off her new school!
Lydia's kitty, Madison was put to rest on August 7th. Lydia got her for her 3rd birthday. Madison was always drinking water...but only from the bath tub faucet...and it was so cute how she would stick her paw in it...like she was testing it first.
Hopefully, they will find a new kitty soon. Josh just found one in his apartment parking lot and then got her a sister from the humane society. We will be going to visit our new GrandCats tomorrow!
Here is a layout I made for Lydia's scrapbook pages for her birthday present last year.
All the V's are going to miss Madison.
Sandy, Karl and the girls came up last weekend to celebrate my birthday. My mom and dad were already here. The V's brought their camper again and parked it in our driveway. It works very, very slick. Lydia helped put the camper up...while Rachel ran to the back yard to pick "seeds" off the neighbors tree. She remembered it from last time they were up at our house, she made a b-line straight for the tree! This time the "seeds" were berries...but they can be anything...actual seeds or berries, acorns, rocks...whatever little treasures she can find to pick up and collect. She yelled "Aunt Susie, can you get me a bucket?" She got a margarita pail and used it all weekend to pick up things.
We went to the fish pond and park.
Lydia noticed my new necklace. It is a paw in memory of Boo. It actually holds a little bit of his ashes in side the heart. There is a screw to plug the hole in the bottom. It is pretty neat. They had to put Madison to sleep at the beginning of August. She was only 4 or 5. Lydia got her for her 3rd birthday. So, Lydia wanted a paw print necklace to remember Madison by. I found this tourquise heart in my old jewelry box and a silver chain and gave it to her.
What she really wanted was one like mine...I didn't tell her about the ashes...she just knew it was a paw print. I told her that I ordered it on the computer. Later on she kept saying "lets go print out a necklace for me on your computer." After a few pleas I brought her to the computer and asked her what she was going to do with a paper necklace??? She looked at me very puzzled and said, "no, I just want a necklace like yours." She thought we could just print out an actual necklace not a photo of one...maybe she will see that invention in her lifetime!!! Who would have thought we could do the things we do now days!
Malorie came over. Josh and his buddy Nate were roofing a house in St. Joe. Malorie (or Mal O Lee as Rachel calls her) got a new cute hair cut! Now my hair is longer than Mals! The girls always would say to me "your hair's not as long as Malories" when we play hair salon.
We had a great dinner and the best part was that Sandy and my Mom did all the work! They made the meal and did all the clean up!! WHOO HOOO!
After a trip to the park, we had a bonfire on the front driveway. The girls got ready for bed and then had stories read to them by fire light!
The next morning, we played hair salon before one last trip to the fish pond.
It was a really great birthday weekend!
My mom and dad left on Monday back down to the V's house until Thursday. They are flying home on 8/30. The summer sure has gone fast! I can't believe it is Labor Day Weekend already!
These are photos my mom took over the past couple weeks. These are from the light rail trip they took with Lydia and Rachel when they were on DAY CARE DUTY!
This one is of Artie in the basement window.
These were taken on my Dad's 70th b-day. We were at Klinefelter Park.
Note in the photo below...Rachel was on the look out for acorns...or seeds, berries, rocks...whatever little treasures she can find.
I made a collage of the photos I took on this special day and had it printed and framed.
The flower photos in the collage above are ones that Lydia took with my camera.
On Saturday, Augst 11th, PBS had a free Sesame Street Gathering.
Grandma and Grandpa's Babysitting Adventure
Then, during the week, Sandy and Karl didn't have daycare, so Grandma and Grandpa took care of the girls. They had lots of fun. One day they went to the Mall of America and took the lightrail train to downtown Minneapolis. Another day they went to Como Park Zoo and went on rides and had a picnic lunch...Sandy surprised the girls and joined them for lunch.
And as always...Rachel was on the lookout for anything she could collect...this time it was acorns (lately however it is cicada bug shells).
One day they also went to Edina to visit an old friend of my folks and stopped at a fun park.
Last Sunday, Karl and Sandy dropped off the girls on their way home from Thief River Falls. The girls stayed overnight and then we had the entire day together on Monday.
It was quite warm out on Monday, so we went to Klinefelter Park early in the day. The girls had a fun time there. Lydia enjoyed playing hide and seek...she liked to hide in the "tunnel" section of the curvy slide. Rachel was so busy picking up acorns and finding rocks....that little girl is always collecting little objects...and she loves to hold on to all of them. Rachel also played in the slide...because that is where Lydia was! She seems to always want to be doing what her sister is doing...unless of course, there are acorns around! We also played "dress up" with a bunch of dance costumes that Grandma bought at garage sales. Rachel wouldn't cooperate with getting her photo taken, but Lydia for a change was all smiles. I let Lydia use my camera to take a few photos. She was very careful with it, and it was so much fun to see what she thought was worth taking a photo of. It was neat to hear her telling Rachel to smile while she was taking her photo. I am hoping that Lydia will be a bit more cooperative when I am taking her photo going forward and learning to look for beauty in the everyday is always a plus!! She took many of Artie, a few of the flowers in the garden and this one of my mom and ...surprise...my dad got in the photo too! I think this photo is so interesting. This is how Lydia sees the world...they must think Bruce is a giant!! She also took these:That evening we met Sandy and Karl at Culvers in Albertville for birthday supper and they took the girls home with them.
This final photo is one that Uncle Bruce took of the girls on Sunday night at the park.
Lydia called Grandma on her cell phone last night while we were out to dinner.
Grandma: Lydia, I have a little present for you!
Lydia: Do you have one for Rachel too?
We had a great weekend with Sandy, Karl and the girls at our house and Josh and Malorie come over too. The girls were so cute running down the driveway to see Grandma and Grandpa.
We had a picnic lunch in the front yard. Grandpa, Lydia and Rachel all napped in Grandma and Grandpa's room. After naps we went to St. Ben's to see the fishies!
Then came "happy hour" and we had some drinks while the girls ran thru the sprinkler. And Grandpa's Iron Claw came out to play. The girl's sure do love playing with Grandpa!
Even Artie hung around with us.After dinner we went and played at the park with the girls while Sandy and Karl got their camper set up on the front driveway. We played hide and seek at the park and even grandpa got into the action!
When we got back from the park we had a bon fire on the front driveway.
Malorie and Josh gave the girls some wonderful gifts...they got stickers, paints, color books, crayons and best of all NAIL POLISH!! They girls were so excited! They actually slept with the bottles of nail polish under their pillows. When they crawled in bed to wake me this morning, they both were still in their jammies and holding bottles of nail polish!
The V's slept in the camper on the driveway, and I guess the girls slept right through the thunder storm we had about 4:30 a.m. Lydia forgot her stuffed animal at home, so she borrowed my old stuffed black cat that I took out after Boo got sick. She told me she took really good care of him and made sure he wasn't scared during the storm! (Earlier in the week Sandy told me that she had told Lydia that Boo had died and had gone to heaven. She said "you know what I am going to do mom? I am going to buy Susie a new cat!" Isn't that so sweet?
Today has been a nice, relaxing day. The V's left about 11:00 or so, and we picked up the house...Bruce watched some TV, dad read the paper...mom made Bean Bag's for Josh's new bean bag toss game he made yesterday! I spent hours editing photos...I made a super awesome one of Grandpa, Lydia and Rachel. I spent so much time on it. I had to combine 2 photos because Rachel wasn't looking in one of them, so I took her head off one and added it to the other one...it was just an awesome job...and I DELETED IT BY ACCIDENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am do bummed. I will have to redo it later this week.
Bruce and my dad are watching THE DEPARTED right now...there sure is a lot of fuc*ing swearing in this movie!!!!!!!! I am going to go edit a few more photos!
