St. Joe's big bash is on the 3rd of July. They have food stands serving "joe burgers" french fries, pop, etc. And of course the beer gardens. Last year I think they went thru 100 kegs of beer and about 100 cases of beer. There are lots of people "uptown". Several local bands were on a stage playing music.
They raffeled off a Harely Davidson. Bruce wanted to go uptown for the drawing, just in case his name was drawn! If it had been I am sure his knee would have miraculously been ALL BETTER and he would have been able to run up to the stage! Unfortunately, he didn't win.
Before walking up there, our yard had already been getting filled up with tents. Josh and Malorie had friends over. They knew they would not be driving home, so they were prepared!
There were great fireworks. We could watch from out back yard.
The fireworks:
It was great not to have to battle traffic to get home from the fireworks. That was always the drag about having them on the 4th of July. I usually work the next day and I don't usually go to the fireworks because they don't start until 10:00 and then you have the trek home...lots of people all leaving at the exact same time. We just got to walk up the drive way and go inside! The very best thing was that we didn't HAVE to work the next day!
Who would have thought that Josh would be this nice to something he normally would rather see thru a scope!
Josh and Malorie are up in Grand Rapids for Malorie's grandpa's funeral. He was the fire chief for GRFD for many years and also voted Citizen of the Year in 1998...I bet it will be a huge funeral. The obituary was really nice and gave a lot of insight as to what kind of person he was. The fire department will be leading the procession from the church to the cemetery. He was 72. He lived on the lake and fed deer in his back yard.
It is cloudy and rainy today...nice day to be inside watching sappy movies on Lifetime and edit photos. I will post the original picture of the edited photo above.
Note - I removed the red wagon behind the deer, Josh's cell phone in his pocket, and some trash on the left side.
Here are a couple more shots.
UPDATED: Monday night - edited to add Susie's photos.
Sandy, Karl and the girls came up on Saturday. Sandy and Karl left the girls with us to go out for lunch and to go furniture shopping. Josh and Malorie were there so we had a really great time. Of course, right away Lydia wanted to play hair salon, so Malorie and I took our turns getting our hair done.
Rachel loves to use the blow dryer...and she also loves to put eyeshadow on my arms!
ETA: I had put the shower cap away after last visit and out of the blue Rachel said "shower cap?"...she has a good memory!
After Rachel's nap we all went to St. Ben's to check to see if the fish were back yet (no, they are still in Florida). "The boys" and Lydia all rode their bikes. Lydia could ride "super fast" and even beat Bruce with how fast she could go, even with the training wheel still on! We stopped at the park on the way back from St. Ben's and the girls had a wonderful time. They both warmed up to Josh so much it was unreal!
He helped them on the monkey bars, sliding down the pole, and he and Rachel rolled a tennis ball back and forth to each other thru the tunnel.
Bruce had to leave the park to start dinner...it was his birthday dinner...but he got stuck making most of it. The rest of us stayed at the park for a long time, and then walked/biked home.
When we got home, Sandy, Karl and Bruce were on the patio visiting.
While Sandy and I finished up the dinner, the boys were told they had appointments at the hair salon!
We had spaghetti, garlic bread and salad for dinner and Lazy Daisy cake for dessert. I put birthday candles on the cake
and the girls helped Uncle Bruce blow out the candles.
I will have more photos to add later...these are all Malorie's shots. THANKS FOR SENDING TO ME SO FAST MALORIE! It was a really fun day.
We had a nice night last night because we got an unexpected visit from Josh and Malorie. They came to town to go out to dinner and stopped by for a visit. It was fun and we had some good laughs! They are coming down for the weekend, but have lots of things planned, so we won't be able to spend much time with them, so it was nice just to have the time to sit and visit.
They brought some ice cream with them for dessert...and it just might be Bruce's new favorite flavor.
That is right KEMPS COTTON CANDY ICE CREAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I didn't try it, but Bruce said it was delicious! In fact when the kids were leaving to go home I reminded them about the ice cream in the freezer...you should have seen Bruce's face when Josh took it out of the freezer. He got this very sad, pouty look...they left it for him!!! There were 2 bowls in the kitchen sink this morning (and I had put all the dishes in the dishwasher before I went to bed)...so I think Bruce must have heard it calling his name during the night.......a COUPLE TIMES!!!
We sort of celebrated Josh's birthday last night. He and Malorie came home last night. Josh left this a.m. on a snowmobiling trip with his Uncle Brian and a few of his friends. They are going way up north to find snow...or at least lakes with lots of thick ice!
I went to the doctor again and got additional meds. 12 more days of Prednisone...tends to make be a bit lethargic...which is opposite of how most people get from it. I was warned I would be wired like I drank lots of coffee...not me.
I spent the whole day in bed today...just relaxing and watching a movie (the new version of Yours, Mine, and Ours - something Bruce probably wouldn't care to watch). I also watched my favorite stand by - LAW AND ORDER a few times.
I also made the new banner you see above. Much easier than I thought it was going to be.
